The Society Presents: Aphilas

As I was casually surfing the world wide web for some gems to share, I came across this dope snowboarding video. It was filmed in the middle of nowhere in Russia (a little redundant, I know) in a burned down school and next to a bunch of industrial factories. What blew me away was, not only the contrast between the beauty of the countryside and the wasteland that can barely be called a residential area, but also how dope the music was. When I shred the nar pow pow I LOVE to listen to simple, gives-you-a-chill-vibe-type music (M83’s We Own The Sky is on every snowboarding playlist I have), and that’s exactly what Stealpot and Aphilas have done here. Before we get into too many details… Check it.

Aphilas, an instrumental band from Helsinki, Finland, put out the Instrumentally Ill EP (which, on a side note, is one of the best album names I’ve heard in a while) in 2003 through their record company and then Prisoners of the Plant in 2006 independently when their record company closed down. Their new album Original Aesthetics comes out in July (which squashes any rumor I’ve heard about them being broken up), and after hearing the song in the video, Prisoners of the Planet, I can’t wait for it to drop. After listening to their first EP I kept thinking that if someone had written some deep, intellectual poetry, it’d go great with these songs in the background…But maybe that’s just me. Anywho. Enjoy
EDITORS NOTE: Audio on the video doesn’t begin until 0:20, so don’t think your audio is screwed up or something.
